A BRIEF HISTORY OF OUR THEATRE
Located on the second floor of the indoor mall in Westport Plaza, the Playhouse opened in October 2004 with Rob Becker's Defending the Caveman, a one man show about the differences between men and women. It ran for 7 months.
We then produced the world premiere of Bingo Extravaganza, written by Maripat Donovan, the creator of Late Nite Catechism.
The Playhouse closed for a renovation to accommodate the incredible Menopause the Musical, which became the longest running play in St. Louis history...running for 15 months.
"I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change" ran for nearly 5 months. This play, directed by Bobby Miller and starring Michael Jokerst, Alan Knoll, Chopper Leifheit, Lee Anne Mathews, Laurie McConnell, and Rosemary Watts, was wonderful and received great reviews. You can read about it at the LPC pages...reviews, cast information, and gallery. It has been nominated for 5 prestigious Kevin Kline awards.....Best Musical, Best Ensemble in a Musical, Best Actress in a Musical (Lee Anne Mathews), Best Director of a Musical (Bobby Miller) and Best Musical Direction of a Musical (Joe Dreyer). We are very proud.
The holidays brought a special joy to the Playhouse, as we proudly presented "Sister's Christmas Catechism," the 3rd installment in the "Late Nite Catechism" trilogy. .....with audience participation, tons of laughter.
We had an abbreviated run of the St. Louis premiere of the amazing holiday comedy, "Every Christmas Story Ever Told." This play was directed by Lee Anne Mathews, who has starred in Menopause the Musical and I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change." This is a 3 man comedy that is pretty self-explanatory....3 men, 90 minutes, thousands of laughs....and a partridge in a pear tree. It starred Chopper Leifheit and Alan Knoll, who you saw in "Love Perfect Change" as well as Bobby Miller, a tremendously gifted actor and Emmy winning director. "Every Christmas Story Ever Told" was a joy to behold. Reviews can be found on the "Christmas Show Reviews" page.
February brings a new production (see above) of "Parenting 101: A Musical Guide to Raising Parents". This play is a hilarious spin on the challenges of parenthood from start to finish. Song parodies....tons of laughs. The show is being produced by The Parenting Project, and features the original cast from New York. It is amazing, and receives standing ovations every night!!
